Starfleet Command has announced their decision regarding the status of our USS Enterprise-D. We will be recommissioned into the fleet -- as an active vessel -- during a small ceremony on Sunday. We will also keep our existing ship name. Our successor vessel, the Nebula-class USS Enterprise-E, which was launched almost two years ago -- after we disappeared in this timeline’s Devron Anomaly – will have its designation upgraded to become the USS Enterprise II, NCC-1701-E. As the larger, and more versatile of these vessels, our Enterprise-D will reclaim its status as the flagship of Starfleet.
This will be the first time, in the 231 years of Starfleet history, that two active, commissioned vessels will share the same name, at the same time.
