Based upon those reports -- which seem to have been forgotten, at best -- multiple species and factions -- from the past, present, and future -- travelled through time, fighting to manipulate history for their own benefit. In fact, at one point, time became so mixed up that Archer and his crew were deposited in Earth’s past, during an altered World War 2 in which Germany had invaded the United States with technology from the future.
Eventually, according to those reports, Captain Archer and his crew managed to stop an alien species from starting that temporal war, and Archer was present to watch time “reset” around him, courtesy of a time-traveling agent from the future known as “Mr. Daniels”.
History has no record of a “Temporal Cold War”, nor any of the influences, events, and geographical locations witnessed in that conflict. However, Captain Archer did state that the war permeated all of time – past, present, and future. Conflicts took place at many points along the timeline (possibly in other timelines), altering reality in untold ways. What if – theoretically -- our own return to the Devron Anomaly, a second time, was part of that “reset” created by “Mr. Daniels” in 2154. And, what if we – aboard the Enterprise-D – still remember our previous reality, because of the “anti-time” qualities recorded within the Devron Anomaly.
In other words, what if time really was “reset”, after of a “Temporal Cold War” that no one but the crew of the NX-01 remembers, and we, aboard the USS Enterprise-D, somehow experienced that reset – as it affected the present, because we are the only time-traveling starship to experience the effects of the reality-piercing Devron Anomaly?
And, if that doesn’t get your mind spinning, consider this… Our ship records match the historical records in the local Federation database – until our “destruction” in the Devron Anomaly. After that, many things are different. And, strangely, the crew we have aboard the Enterprise right now – most of whom we remember coming aboard after our first time in the Devron Anomaly – are recorded, here, as having been aboard BEFORE we left to investigate the anomaly (and then, subsequently disappeared, three years ago). So, if you’re keeping track, that means that Commander Riker, Lieutenant La Forge, Doctor Beverly Crusher, even Evelee, are all recorded – in the local Federation Database -- as being part of our original crew. None of them, however, experienced the de-aging affects of the Devron Anomaly.
Confused? I can understand why.
Time, it would seem, is haunting the USS Enterprise-D. We appear to have a strange “supernatural” connection to the Devron Anomaly, and that connection may have allowed us to experience the affects of another temporal event -- of which no one else is aware -- as it changed history, and came to an end.
Boy, am I glad I studied Temporal Mechanics back at the Academy!
