Enterprise Station

Well, that was an interesting two months.

As you may have noticed, we didn’t have any posts from our Public Affairs Office, here, aboard Enterprise Station, since the beginning of November. This is due to my staff and I being temporarily (and unexpectedly) reassigned following the stabilization of the Bajoran Wormhole. During this time, I was asked to participate in special operations at the Temporal Investigations facility in orbit of Koralis III (i.e. Tempus Station, five light years from Bajor), and both Lieutenant (JG) Tessa Kensington, and Ensign Cassie Queen, were reassigned to short-term postings in Enterprise Station operations.

And, yes you read that correctly, the USS Enterprise-D has been officially redesignated, by Starfleet Command, as “Enterprise Station”. Since we must remain at the mouth of the Bajoran Wormhole (holding the wormhole open with generated gravimetric fields), we are now the primary Starfleet command facility for the entire Bajor sector. Our separated stardrive section -- currently parked in the distant Gamma Quadrant, holding the Gamma Quadrant wormhole terminus open -- has been redesignated as a stationary facility named, “Gamma Station”. Enterprise Station crew have been reassigned there, as needed.

Meanwhile, tensions have been explosive on Bajor, with the entire planet recently emerging from a brief civil war. That civil war resulted in a new planetary government (succeeding the unstable Provisional Government), which has expelled all non-Bajorans from the planet, as well as from all existing Bajoran facilities. This has forced Starfleet to evacuate Deep Space 9, which remains in orbit of Bajor (and which the Bajorans have now renamed “Bajor Station”). Some of DS9’s evacuated Starfleet crew have been posted to Enterprise and Gamma Stations.

Diplomatic agreements will allow both Enterprise Station, and Gamma Station, to remain at the wormhole indefinitely. This is due to our vital function here, as well as the high value of the phenomena. Bajoran liaisons are being assigned as necessary, however, both stations remain under Starfleet control and operation. Bajoran nationals can operate aboard our stations, with many already taking up residence, but they are subject to Starfleet policies and regulations, as well as all Federation laws currently in effect.

Essentially, we now have an alliance of necessity with the Bajoran people. The wormhole is theirs, but the stations operating and defending it belong to Starfleet. So far, both sides are coordinating their affairs in peace, despite the Bajoran government’s strong anti-alien stance. We hope this can continue (and eventually improve even further), because the newfound political, scientific, and exploratory stakes are extremely high…. for both the Bajorans, and the Federation.
