The Conundrum of the D and the E

The Enterprise remains under guard, in Earth orbit, as Starfleet Command discusses our “return from the dead”. We are still on security lockdown, although, we should hear the result of their discussions before the end of the weekend.

As I understand it, our status is somewhat complicated by the existence of our successor vessel, the USS Enterprise-E, a Nebula-class starship that has been in service for nearly two years. Here, in our altered timeline, we are not the current flagship of Starfleet.
