Holographic Object-Display System

Starfleet continues to experiment with holographic technology. I wouldn’t be surprised if, someday -- a few years down the road, we are able to send holographic data transmissions as easily as we send digital comm signals, or use holographic camouflage in special ops missions.

With those possibilities in mind, Starfleet Public Affairs has begun installing new holographic object-display systems on all Starfleet ships. These systems have been installed in our PAO offices, and in our quarters, and we have been encouraged to use them regularly in our posts and projects – both official, and personal.

Other departments aboard the Enterprise, including Communications, Intelligence, and some Engineering labs have also seen been given access to this technology, and are tasked with discovering new applications while in the field.

What this system does, is to create a singular in-the-moment scan of a person (or object), and translate that scan into a basic holographic representation. That representation then serves as an avatar of sorts, and can be used in imagery, holographic programming, technological research, and, eventually, communication applications. We, in the PAO, office, have chosen to begin using this system as a way to provide additional imagery for our posts – avatar imagery that allows us to share more personal characterizations, while still retaining individual privacy. As you’ll note, we have not shared personal photos, due in part to these privacy directives.

Now that we have been encouraged to make use of this system, we took the time this week to capture scanned representations of the three of us. These new representations will depict us – Tessa, Cassie, and myself -- in social posts over the coming weeks and months.

It is very likely that this system will see more active use in our individual Facebook page posts, where the system can be used to express personal tastes and interests. Our Public Affairs Page will remain professional, as is the nature of our department.

So, those of you who do not know us personally, you'll get to see us take off our masks. This is who we are. What you will see are the faces of your USS Enterprise-D Public Affairs personnel.
