Sudden Appearances

An old emotional wound has resurfaced, and I’m having a hard time dealing with it.

Earlier today, my old pre-Academy girlfriend -- celebrity actress, Mara Kendricks -- appeared aboard Enterprise Station. I met her in 2350, while we were both professional actors in the Earth film, “Worlds Unknown” – the fictional story of a civilian starship crew exploring space. In the movie, I played the role of Eddie Benson, the ship’s engineer. Mara played the role of the ship’s nurse, Lana Martin. “Worlds Unknown” was released in 2351; you may have seen it.

Our characters, Eddie and Lana, were not in a relationship in the movie, but the two of us, Sam and Mara, got along well off-screen. I fell in love with her, she shared those same feelings, so we started dating. We were devoted to each other, grounded in the same faith, and had a great deal in common. Our relationship became long-distance when I entered Starfleet Academy -- a decision Mara lovingly supported.

Unfortunately, in 2352, things came to a sudden end when Mara disappeared. She was participating in a UFSO tour aboard the Starfleet ship, USS Chogatta (Constellation-class), when it vanished. I was a second-year SFA cadet at the time. Neither the USS Chogatta, nor its crew, have ever been found. Eighteen years later, they remain missing, with everyone presumed dead – lost, somewhere, in the depths of space.

Today, however, Mara Kendricks mysteriously appeared aboard Enterprise Station, and, strangely, she is the same 23-year-old beauty I loved the year she disappeared. She has no idea why, or how, she appeared aboard Enterprise Station, and she does not remember the events of the Chogatta’s disappearance. She’s here, she loves me as much as she did in 2352, and I am left with old feelings that I had been forced to put behind me long ago.

What baffles me the most about Mara’s sudden reappearance, though, is that she isn’t the only one. Other Enterprise Station residents have also reported the sudden appearances of old friends, deceased loved ones, long lost pets, favorite celebrities, even a few rivals and personal enemies. In addition, there is a squad of WWII American soldiers on our Marine deck, Captain America in one of our science labs, a velociraptor in the empty (unused) cetacean tanks, and it’s snowing in our Main Shuttlebay. Yes… real snow.

The crew of Gamma Station, on the Gamma Quadrant side of the wormhole, have reported similar appearances, including the deceased (and now, very much alive) Admiral James T. Kirk, Amelia Earhart, and an office full of puppies – just to name a few.

Unfortunately, we have no explanation for these appearances, at this time. I can only state the obvious: these people, and animals, are real. We can touch them, smell them, see them…. They are just as confused as we are. Many of them should not even exist.

Captain Picard has ordered both Enterprise Station, and Gamma Station, into quarantine mode, until we can figure out what’s happening. We have a lot of chaos to manage. It’s going to be a long, and challenging, night
